Rain and Race day for BSBK Round 4
Cold weather plus rain showers covered the whole BSBK Saturday event, 11th of February at the Bahrain International Circuit, Sakhir. More experienced riders took this chance to be on top of the game, giving a real good set of winners placed at the podium.
Racing starts with a free practice at 9:50 am but, unfortunately, the circuit committee had to cancel the session due to a heavy rain while the qualifying was set at 11:30 am. The first race began at 1:32 and race 2 was scheduled at 15:12 pm where both races were held over 11 laps.
Mishal Alneami notched fantastic doubles for the round 4. The Qatari rider was nearly a second quicker than his closest rival in qualifying, and then took the race one checkered flag in 12:38.430. He was 4.616s ahead of runner-up Fahad Alsowaidi, while Ahmed Almuyini was third, 9.809s. AlShammari, AlKhalaf and Pearce completed the top 6 of the race one.
In race two, AlNeami did well to fight his way back to the front after losing four positions in the early stages of the race. Towards the ends, he was clear of the field and won in 12:49.772 – 4.290s quicker than Mike “Spike” Edwards who claimed second place. Ali AlShammari had another podium in third, 13,465s adrift. Alsowaidi, Almuyini and Khalaf completed the top six in that order.
In this season, half of the grid are from last BSBK season and a half grid are newcomers consisting of different nationalities. Riders from Australia, UK, Dubai, Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia flew here in Bahrain every month to compete for the title and to have a unique bonding among these riders. All the riders are using the identical Ducati 899 Panigale, set and prepared by Wheels of Arabia technical crew.
